Mr. O’Connor is the Controller for Magnolia Capital, a nationally focused real estate investor based in Chicago.
Prior to joining Magnolia Capital, Mr. O’Connor was the Controller at The John Buck Company. His responsibilities included managing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and investor relations for the developments and acquisitions of their multifamily and commercial assets. In this role, he managed four institutional capital joint venture real estate funds totaling $600M+ of commitments. Mr. O’Connor was instrumental in fundraising and successfully closing a new fund with $100M of investor commitments. He assisted with preparing annual property budgets, investment valuation review, managing cross-functional teams, and cash management including capital calls and distributions. Mr. O’Connor has extensive experience with U.S. GAAP historical cost processes, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and Real Estate Information Standards (REIS) – fair value reporting requirements.
Mr. O’Connor also previously worked at EY (formerly Ernst & Young LLP) performing audit and accounting consultative services within real estate and hospitality industries. During his tenure there, he performed extensive audits and analytical research while remaining current on accounting pronouncements, regulatory rules, and guidelines.
Mr. O’Connor earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Minor in Finance, and Master’s degree in Accounting from Loyola University of Chicago. Go Ramblers!
